There’s a bang at the front door followed by a clang of metal. I spin out of bed and grab the blade inside my right boot then tuck it in to my shorts. I can hear shouting outside but I don’t have a clue what's being said. Grabbing my boots by their laces, I hang them around my neck and make for the bathroom. A male voice shouts my name a couple of times before announcing that there’s a fire in the building. Fire or not I’m heading out the bathroom window. From there, there are two ledges to hop and I can jump to a balcony sticking out from the building opposite. I checked the whole place out when I got here and I don’t trust anyone who calls out my name without introducing themselves first.
I poke my head out of the window, check the street below and step on to the first ledge. By the time I get to the second ledge it sounds like the men inside are trying to break the door down. I make the leap to the balcony then turn to check the street from the other side. I see a man next to the entrance of the building I’ve just left. He has some kind of black cloth in his hand. Stepping back out of sight I disappear from the balcony and casually make my way to the street below. Even though there was no fire I’ll be sleeping at a hotel tonight.
